Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) systems utilize synthetic, human-made organic compounds composed of hydrogen, fluorine, and carbon atoms. They were widely introduced in the 1990s to replace ozone-depleting substances like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). While HFC systems possess a near-zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP), they are classified as potent greenhouse gases with an extremely high Global Warming Potential (GWP).
